Quality Assurance & Safety Manager Job Description

The QAS Manager develops and administers programs and policy to ensure product quality and employee safety. This manager’s primary goal is a zero-accident workplace. Other responsibilities relate to company compliance in the areas of product quality and environmental regulations and programs such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Industry Best Manufacturing Practices.


  • Continuously improve policy and procedure as it relates to quality and safety
  • Is the in-house OSHA compliance officer
  • Adheres to industry quality standards
  • Ensures that products meets customer expectations
  • Executes quality assurance testing and activities
  • Has ownership of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) programs
  • Has the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external personnel
  • Has the ability to to speak effectively to a group, and can deliver weekly safety and/or compliance training to personnel
  • Food Defense and Food Safety Systems Maintenance
  • Supervise QA and Sanitation Personnel (2-4 employees)
  • Has the ability and willingness to train and develop personnel
  • Has the ability to keep meticulous records


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quality Assurance, Business, Communications or related field preferred
  • A least two years of experience in a related field required
  • A least two years of experience managing personnel required
  • Must be able to use computers and generate reports
  • HACCP Certification preferred
  • Ability to produce good customer facing and management facing work
  • Sharp attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Great team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to sit, stand and walk around for hours at a time

Work Environment

This position works on-site at our mill in Sandpoint, Idaho. We process cedar and other wood products in this facility and dust and sawdust will be present in some areas. The person in this position will walk for 20% of the time, stand for 20% of the time, and sit for 60% of the time.
