We take our role as stewards of the planet seriously.

Here at Wildwood Grilling, we work where we play and all phases of our manufacturing process happen right here in our small hometown of Sandpoint, Idaho.

Like you, we value our local communities and ecosystems and are always looking to conduct business in a wise and sustainable way. For us that means we source much of our raw lumber from the Pacific Northwest and aim to use 100% of the wood fiber that we bring in.

We are proud to be certified by both the Sustainable Forestry Initiative as well as the Forest Stewardship Council.

A FORESTRY LEGACY

Our team is full of foresters, outdoor enthusiasts, and alpine athletes. Maintaining sustainable forestry practices within our company is not only a wise business practice, it’s personal. We have practiced West Coast forestry in California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho for decades.

STRATEGIC LOCATION

Our mill is located in the heart of Western Red Cedar’s botanical range in the Pacific Northwest where this species lives and thrives. The environmental cost of obtaining and transporting our raw material, measured in fossil fuel consumption, is very low. We never have to wait for a ship to deliver our goods and don’t even have to think about extra taxes and tariffs impacting our product.

SOURCING

We hold our raw material resourcing practices to a high sustainability standard. One of the requirements necessary to uphold our standards is practicing a land stewardship ethic that integrates reforestation as well as the conservation of soil, air, and water quality while taking into consideration the biological diversity of the area. This means that we only use wood harvested from responsibly managed, second growth forests in the USA.

OUR SUSTAINABILITY GOALS

Our ongoing sustainability goal is to utilize 100% of the wood fiber that we bring in.  We accomplish this in a few ways. Any wood that is unsuitable for our production line is made into smoking chips, and firestarters. Beyond that, we capture our sawdust waste and use t in a variety of ways off campus, from compost and energy logs, to bedding for the horses at the neighbor’s ranch.

CERTIFICATIONS

Wildwood Grilling holds Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certifications for different wood types. These third-party evaluations protect environmental values such as biodiversity, soil, water quality, and replanting initiatives. We are also GMP certified as a food safe facility, making us one of the only food-safe certified wood mills in the country.
