What’s better than coming home to a nice air conditioned house after wandering the scorching hot desert all day rounding up strays? Nothing. Eventually though, you will become hungry and that’s where Maple Planked Red Stag makes your day 100x better. The hot sun beating down on you all day can sure make for a long and weary venture. A nice meal at the end of this heat trap is really what kept me going.

Total Time: 25 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients:

  • 2 Maple Grilling Planks
  • Red Stag back strap (Venison will also do Red Stag just makes me sound fancy)
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 1 Garlic Clove
  • 1 lbs. Brussel Sprouts
  • 3 Bell Peppers

Chef's Tip

For best tasting meal make sure you run around on a horse all day or equivalent.

They don’t tell you this in the movies but staring at would be steak all day really makes you hungry.

Directions:

  1. Soak (or wipe down with whiskey) Maple planks up to 1 hour.
  2. Preheat grill (I don’t know how to translate to ovens) to 350°F.
  3. Season red Stag back straps with salt & pepper. (Trust me you don’t need much other seasoning)
  4. Throw on plank, slap on grill 12-17 minutes or until cooked to your liking (make sure you don’t like it done more than medium or I’ll ban you).
  5. Boil brussel sprouts and halve them before putting on plank with crushed garlic and salt & pepper. Grill for 10-15 minutes.
  6. When done, remove from grill and eat as fast as you can to grab any of the leftovers before someone else gets the same idea.
  7. Enjoy!

Evan here! Born and raised in Sandpoint, Idaho. Join me on my journey, reins  in hand, grilling planks in the other as I discover the tastier side of the grill. I once was told that “Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment” and when i’m not falling off my horse I plan on experiencing delicious foods.
